Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens's History
The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Ravens have a rich and storied history that has made them one of the most storied franchises in the league.
The team was founded in 1996 when Art Modell, then owner of the Cleveland Browns, decided to move the team to Baltimore. The move was controversial as it left the city of Cleveland without a football team, but it was a major boost for Baltimore, which had been without a football team since the Colts left for Indianapolis in 1984.
The Ravens made an immediate impact in their new home, winning their first game in franchise history against the Oakland Raiders. In just their second season, they made it to the playoffs for the first time, winning the AFC Central division with a 10-6 record. They reached the Divisional Round of the playoffs before being knocked out by the Tennessee Titans.
The Ravens continued to improve in the coming years, with their defense becoming one of the best in the league. In 2000, they won their first Super Bowl, defeating the New York Giants in a 34-7 rout. The defense was dominant throughout the playoffs, allowing just 23 points in four games, including a shutout in the Super Bowl.
The Ravens won their second Super Bowl in 2013, defeating the San Francisco 49ers in a thrilling game that featured a power outage and a furious comeback by the 49ers. The Ravens were led by quarterback Joe Flacco, who was named the game's MVP after throwing for 287 yards and three touchdowns.
Over the years, the Ravens have had a number of great players come through their doors. One of the most iconic was linebacker Ray Lewis, who played for the team from 1996 to 2012. Lewis was a 13-time Pro Bowler and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named MVP of Super Bowl XXXV.
Other great Ravens players include Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Jonathan Ogden, and Jamal Lewis. The team has also had a number of talented coaches, including Brian Billick and John Harbaugh.
