Smashing Pumpkins
Smashing Pumpkins's History
The Smashing Pumpkins are an American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1988. The band consists of Billy Corgan (vocals, guitar), James Iha (guitar), Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), and D'arcy Wretzky (bass). The Smashing Pumpkins are known for their unique sound that blends elements of alternative rock, grunge, and heavy metal.
The band's debut album, Gish, was released in 1991 and received critical acclaim for its intricate guitar work and dark, brooding sound. The Smashing Pumpkins' second album, Siamese Dream, was released in 1993 and propelled them to mainstream success. The album featured the hit singles "Today," "Cherub Rock," and "Disarm," and helped to establish the band as one of the most important alternative rock acts of the 1990s.
The Smashing Pumpkins continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s, including Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) and Adore (1998). However, the band began to experience internal conflicts and line-up changes, which ultimately led to their breakup in 2000.
In 2006, Billy Corgan announced that he was reforming the Smashing Pumpkins with a new line-up, which included Chamberlin on drums, but not Iha or Wretzky. The band released their first album in seven years, Zeitgeist, in 2007 and embarked on a world tour in support of the album.
The Smashing Pumpkins have continued to tour and release new music in the years since their reunion, with Corgan being the only original member still in the band. They have released several albums, including Oceania (2012) and Monuments to an Elegy (2014).
The Smashing Pumpkins are known for their high-energy live shows, which feature Corgan's signature vocals and guitar playing, as well as Chamberlin's powerful drumming. The band has toured extensively throughout their career, playing sold-out shows in venues around the world.
